THE MEANING OF MAHAMRITYUNJAY MANTRA:
OM- "OM" or "AUM" is the sound of the Universe. It signifies the Ultimate Source and Universe's Primordial Energy. By Chanting the Word, it creates positive vibrations that helps in bringing tremendous change within us which is essesntial to be an Achiever.
TRYAMBAKAM - This Word is the collection of three phases of life, The Past, The Present and The Future. One who is Stable and Inevitable in all these three phases of one's life, The God(Creator of Universe) is termed as "TRYAMBAKAM". It also resembles the Power of Third Eye.
YAJAMAHE - It suggests us to continously magnify(to praise) God with pure Heart and Soul. It also states that when this Mantra is chanted with full dedication and concentration, our body gets possessed with Strength.

PUSSUGANDHIMTI VARDHANAM - One who increases our Soul Power, Concentration, and Strength. This word is of two words: "PUSTI"- Something which is True or Exists and "VARDHANAM"- Something which is very pleasing to the Soul and Eyes. Lord awakens all the Superior Qualities within us.
URVARUKAMIVA BANDHANAN - The Gourd, which grows on the ground which when gets matured, detaches itself from the stem easily. MRITYORMUKSHIYA MAMRITAT - The two words here emphasises on the prayer which says that we too shall be Matured enough to keep Death at a distance without any struggle. These words "MRITYORMUKSHIYA MAMRITAT" means that we shall be Immortal and this Wisdom should be insisted by The God within us. We will Surrender ourself to The Creator, Blend and Merge with you simultaneously.
SCIENCE BEHIND THIS MAHAMRITYUNJAY MANTRA:
Whenever we face difficulty(phsically or mentally), it is Suggested to Look at Lord Shiva's Third Eye, which means we are advised to Open up our Eyes of the Mind and then ask for Options.
When we face Life Threatening Difficulty, we Think, Think and Think and then we will get multiple Options from our Mind.
When Mind gives us multiple Options, we go into Silence. Then We try to Relax, Try to Meditate, we go from Sympathetic to Parasympathetic Mode, and ask our Heart to choose one of them. Whatever our Heart choses, we get a Signal of Comfort or Discomfort.
If its a Signal of Comfort, we chose that and that becomes a Consious Based Decision. This Phenomenon becomes Easy by Regular Chanting of MAHAMRITYUNJAY MANTRA with Pure Heart and Soul which Opens our Third Eye.
STORY BEHIND THIS MAHAMRITYUNJAY MANTRA:
Many Years ago, there was a Noble Sage named Mrukanda, whose one of the problems in life was that he was Childless. He performed many penances for a Child. As a result of his penance, he was blessed with a Son. Rishi named him Markandeya. When Markandeya was born, the astrologer informed Rishi that Markandeya's life-period will be only of 12 Years.
Markandeya was unaware of this fact and even Rishi didnot find it appropriate to tell him. When Markandeya grew up and became mature enough to understand things, then Rishi told him about the reality of his life-period of his 12 Years and along with it, he gave him the Beej(Seed) Mantra to Worship Lord Shiva, and said that now only Lord Shiva could protect him from the fear of Death. Then Markandeya started worshipping Lord Shiva.
When Markandeya's time of death arrived, Yamraja came there to take away his life. Markandeya got frightened after seeing him and immediately hugged Shivlinga.
At that moment, suddenly Lord Shiva appeared there. He compelled Yamraja to return and blessed Markandeya to become immortal.
This is how this Mantra Originated. It is not that only Chanting this Matra will release us from the Cycle of Rebirth impelled by the Law of Karma but, what mostly matters is our Karma, We must do good Deeds and involuntarily we will be the Receipt of Mokshya.
