Definition :
Abnormal protrusion of abnormal viscus through the oesophageal hiatus into the chest
Types :
1. Sliding hernia or oesophagogastric hernia : It is he commonest type of hiatus hernia , accounting for about 80 % of cases .I may be associated with GORD.
2. Rolling or para oesophageal hernia
3. Mixed hernia
4.Massive herniation
Grade : type 1 -H0 - Normal
type 2 -H1-Sliding
type 3 -H2-Para oesophageal
type 4-H3-Mixed
type 5-H4-Massive herniation
Common symptoms :
1.Symptoms due to reflex : Regurgitation & heart burn are the two most common symptoms .
2. Symptoms due to complications : They are dysphagia , haematemesis & melaena
3. Non oesophageal symptoms : they are asthma & chest pain.
